A note
on Hedy

Founder, publisher, and creative director working from Monastir. I build publications, studios, and objects that argue for a modern North Africa on its own terms.

I am not building a magazine. I am building a record of a place at the exact moment it decides what it wants to be.

Biography

Chapters

01

Origin

I grew up between Monastir and the road: coastal light, a family habit of arguing about music at the table, and a city that taught me that culture is something you live in rather than something you consume.

Long before I called it work, I was collecting: cassettes, clippings, photographs from markets, notes from conversations with people whose names never made it into a magazine. That instinct to keep things became the practice.

02

Journey

I started writing about culture because the version of Tunisia I read about elsewhere did not resemble the one I knew. The reporting became a thesis, and in 2021 the thesis became Tunez Magazine.

What began as a quarterly grew into an ecosystem: a studio, a label, a marketplace, an architecture journal, and an oral archive. I move between editing, directing, and building, and I treat all three as the same job.

Interests

Print objects and the smell of them. Analogue photography and the discipline of a finite roll. North African modernism, courtyards, tiles, typography. Club records and the social history hidden inside them.

I read history to understand taste, and I travel to notice how other cities take care of their own culture.

04

Values

Rigour before speed. Nothing ships because the calendar says so.

Credit where it belongs. Writers, photographers, and musicians are the work, not the decoration around it.

No translation. The region does not need to explain itself to be taken seriously.

05

Now

Currently building Tunez Stay, expanding the 1001 en Tunez archive, and preparing the next chapter: a permanent cultural house with residencies, publishing, and a physical space.

I am open to collaborations with brands, institutions, and independent makers who care about the same standard.

The Vision

Culture as infrastructure, not content.
